R 1 Boer Goats

Where Champions are Bred and Friends are Made

It has long been said that a sire is half of your herd, and we find this to be more than true.  A good investment in quality sires has moved our program forward faster than anything else. Our bucks all are sound on their feet and legs We pride ourselves on our wide genetic array and set of high-quality stud bucks.  We own all or own partnerships in 5 bucks from 5 months to 5 years old.  Our stud battery has bucks that range from a hard-muscled, tight, thin-hided wether buck to an old double bred Vlek buck.

We have own sons of JRA1 Agnew’s Bo-Howdy and Downen T138 Boilermaker.  Our bloodlines within the three generation pedigrees include  Downen Design 19, RRD Top Brass, DER War Paint, RDR Super Champ, Vlek, Pipeline, Dello, TX02 1045, FSE Bluechip, Downen S160, Ubora and several other solid genetic lines.

We have a very solid genetic line up and feel very confident in the ability of our lines to replicate themselves with quality offspring.  All of our older bucks are proven producers of quality. We rarely don’t band young bucks, but if they are kept a buck, we selectively breed them to a couple of does at 5 to 7 months old to determine if a buck should be sold for breeding stock or not.  With kids on the ground before a buck reaches one year old, if a buck does not turn out, limited time and energy is invested into it.

DER T12 Bo-Vision

Deceased 12/08

JRA1 Agnew’s Bo-Howdy x ABF Ribbons

This buck died too soon.  We did get one kid crop out of him and they are good.  We have about 10 does that we are keeping back to carry on his legacy.  We also have on buck, “Swamp Donkey” that is out of a Charles Turner fullblood.  If he continues to develop as he has, he will be used here in the future.

SAFD W405

This buck’s first kid crop came last fall and have only gotten better since they hit the ground.  They are very exciting.  His kids are correct, long, tall, and thick.  Front end extension is a definite plus with this guy.  This guy is going to see a lot of action in our breeding stock program and will make some good wethers with top and butt, too.

There should be several does out of W405 in our show string this summer.  This buck has a lot of good things going for him and will see a lot of action in our programs this summer.  He should sire a ton of good wether dams that are the productive types of brood does with huge tops and butts.  We are doing a limited number of outside breedings, contact Ben if you are interested.

W405 is owned with Brock Ostrom of North Manchester, IN.

902 “Impact”

Here he is.  This is our new wether buck.  Two words are needed to make good wethers: look and touch.  “Impact” has both.  These pictures are not very good, we’ll get better one’s up soon.  On the left is after a 28 hour trailer ride.

This guy has the look.  Jack fronted, long bodied, longer hip, and wider from front all the way back.  “Impact” has as much skeletal extension through his body as any buck I have seen in Indiana and few can match in the Midwest.  “Impact” has bone and breed character just to throw in extra pizzazz.

We only got 3 sets of kids out of Impact due to his young age and an illness bout.  THEY WERE LIGHTS OUT!  One wether was our $1050 high seller and one was a crowd pleaser that sold for $750.  The pictures on the right are January wethers out of  Impact at the 2009 All Star Sale.  We have one killer March paint wether on the ground that should make some noise at Louisville.

Needless to say, Impact is going to see a ton of use this summer and fall.  Feel free to contact us for more information.

Owned with Steve King/Barry Scales, IN.
